Growth Energy expects Canada to remain a top destination for U.S. ethanol

An official with Growth Energy expects Canada to remain a major export market for U.S. ethanol in 2021.

Chris Bliley says Ontario recently announced a program looking at 15 percent renewable content in gasoline by 2030.

“And the Canadian federal government has put out a clean fuel standard plan that models a scenario with E15, or 15 percent ethanol, by 2030. So certainly some encouraging news there.”

He tells Brownfield Canada and Brazil were the top two importers of U.S. ethanol this year.

“And we’ve enjoyed a strong two-way trade relationship with the biofuel producers in Canada, they’ve been impacted by COVID as we have as well. But I think with these signals from the Canadian government, certainly the future looks bright for biofuel producers in Canada and the U.S. as well.”

Growth Energy and the U.S. Grains Council also have ongoing programs to promote ethanol in India, China, Japan, Mexico, and Indonesia.
